Position Overview
We are launching and growing a professional commercial kitchen exhaust and hood cleaning company serving restaurants and commercial kitchens throughout the Needham and area
We are looking for an experienced Commercial Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning Technician who currently holds a valid Massachusetts Type 1 Certificate of Competency for Cleaning and Inspecting Commercial Cooking Operations.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced hood-cleaning professional who wants to join a growing company at an early stage and potentially advance into a Lead Technician, Field Supervisor, Operations Manager, or Training role as the company expands.
The right candidate will have hands-on experience cleaning complete commercial kitchen exhaust systems in accordance with Massachusetts fire-code requirements and applicable NFPA 96 standards.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
· Current Massachusetts Type 1 Certificate of Competency for commercial kitchen exhaust cleaning and inspection
· Certificate must be valid and in good standing
· Minimum 500 documented hours of commercial kitchen exhaust cleaning/inspection field experience
· Hands-on experience cleaning complete kitchen exhaust systems
· Working knowledge of Massachusetts commercial cooking exhaust requirements
· Familiarity with 527 CMR 1.00 Chapter 50
· Familiarity with NFPA 96
· Ability to inspect commercial kitchen exhaust systems and identify deficiencies
· Ability to complete required Massachusetts cleaning/inspection documentation
· Ability to work safely on ladders and commercial rooftops
· Ability to work nights, early mornings and occasional weekends
· Valid driver’s license
· Reliable transportation
· Ability to safely perform physically demanding work

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
The technician will perform professional cleaning and inspection of commercial kitchen exhaust systems including:
· Commercial kitchen exhaust hoods
· Hood interiors
· Grease filters
· Plenum areas
· Exhaust ductwork
· Vertical and horizontal ductwork
· Exhaust fans
· Fan housings
· Fan blades
· Rooftop exhaust components
· Grease collection components
· Accessible portions of complete kitchen exhaust systems
The technician will also:
· Inspect systems before and after cleaning
· Identify grease accumulation and fire hazards
· Identify inaccessible areas of ductwork
· Identify missing or inadequate access panels
· Identify damaged or improperly installed components
· Identify fan, hinge, electrical and grease-containment concerns
· Document deficiencies found during inspections
· Take detailed before-and-after photographs
· Complete required service and inspection reports
· Properly document areas that could not be cleaned or inspected
· Apply Massachusetts-required service labels
· Properly document non-compliant systems
· Follow applicable Massachusetts Notice of Non-Compliance procedures
· Maintain accurate service records
· Follow company safety procedures
· Protect restaurant equipment and property during cleaning
· Properly contain grease and wastewater
· Maintain professional communication with restaurant owners and managers

MASSACHUSETTS LICENSING EXPERIENCE
Because Massachusetts has specific licensing requirements for commercial kitchen exhaust cleaning, preference will be given to candidates who have experience working with:
· Massachusetts DFS commercial hood-cleaning requirements
· Type 1 Certificates of Competency
· Massachusetts commercial hood-cleaning labels
· Sequential service sticker requirements
· Notice of Non-Compliance procedures
· Local Fire Department / AHJ requirements
· Massachusetts inspection and cleaning documentation
LEAD TECHNICIAN OPPORTUNITY
For a highly experienced candidate, this position may develop into a Lead Hood Cleaning Technician / Field Supervisor position.
Additional responsibilities could include:
· Leading two-person or multi-person cleaning crews
· Training new technicians
· Performing final system inspections
· Reviewing job documentation
· Reviewing before-and-after photographs
· Maintaining quality-control standards
· Communicating with restaurant managers
· Helping establish cleaning procedures
· Helping establish equipment and chemical standards
· Assisting management with Massachusetts compliance procedures
· Coordinating with local Fire Departments when appropriate
· Helping build and develop the company’s field operations
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The position requires the ability to:
· Work on ladders
· Access commercial rooftops
· Lift and carry commercial hood-cleaning equipment
· Handle pressure-washing hoses
· Work around commercial cooking equipment
· Work in hot and greasy environments
· Bend, kneel, climb and reach
· Work for extended periods while performing physical cleaning
· Safely use PPE and commercial cleaning chemicals
